Another LFC fan celebrates as the Liverpool Expo pavilion hits the 250,000 mark
More than 250,000 visitors have now enjoyed the Liverpool experience at the city’s pavilion at the World Expo in Shanghai.
The lucky 250,000th visitor was presented with a signed Liverpool FC ball after he was clocked as the lucky guest.
Zheng JianFang had travelled 370 miles from Fuzhou south of Shanghai (a 19-hour train journey) with his family to visit the World Expo over the weekend, with the Liverpool pavilion top of his hit list.
The Liverpool supporting accountant had heard that the city’s pavilion is packed with information and excitement and despite being greeted by a huge queue and the protestations of his wife, Mr Zheng held his ground and joined the long line – to his wife’s eventual relief.
He said: “We are so excited at winning an amazing souvenir of our visit and my wife is relieved that we did stay and queue. I can’t wait to show the ball to all my friends and family and I’m going to create a special place at home to display the ball.
"This is a day that we will never forget and we hope that we can come and watch a game at Liverpool in the not too distant future".
Oliver Hayakawa, Director of the Liverpool Shanghai Partnership, said: “A quarter of a million visitors is a remarkable achievement at this stage of the Expo and well ahead of our forecasts.
“It was only a month ago that we welcomed our 100,000 visitor, but our pavilion is now attracting around 4,200 visitors every day, which is far in excess of any other pavilion in the Urban Best Practice Area.
“It’s a real testament to the whole Liverpool Expo team that people are having a great time seeing what the city has to offer and then spreading the word meaning more and more visitors.”
The autographed Liverpool FC ball is one of a number of exclusive prizes the Pavilion has to offer through the course of the Expo which runs until the end of October this year.
In June alone, the Liverpool pavilion received 126,641, giving a daily average of 4,221. Since the start of the World Expo on May 1, the city’s Expo website, www.liverpoolshanghai2010.co.uk has received more than 1.5m hits.
There are 59 cities exhibiting alongside Liverpool in the Urban Best Practice Area at the World Expo including the likes of Hamburg, Milan and Rotterdam.
Liverpool’s presence at World Expo 2010 is being led by Liverpool Vision in partnership with the Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA), Liverpool City Council, and the Liverpool Shanghai Partnership.
