B&M Bargains to open new Liverpool base next month
Discount chain B&M Retail says fit-out work at its new headquarters and distribution centre in Liverpool is progressing smoothly ahead of the site’s opening in August.
B&M is moving its base to a 625,000sq ft unit, called The Vault, at the Estuary Commerce Park in Speke.
It has already started recruiting staff at the site, which will eventually house 600 workers.
B&M’s move reinforces Merseyside’s reputation as a home for discount retailers. The Home Bargains chain is based in Gillmoss, while department store chain TJ Hughes is based in Liverpool.
B&M has 200 B&M Bargains stores in the UK and serves more than 1.5m shoppers every week.
It secured a £10.85m funding package from Lloyds TSB Corporate to buy The Vault.
Operations director Craig May said: “Fit-out works are progressing smoothly at The Vault. B&M is actively recruiting warehouse operatives, forklift drivers, human resources, payroll, administrative and finance staff.
“In time, we will also have vacancies for buying and merchandising staff.
“The most pressing vacancies at the moment are HGV drivers.”
B&M’s existing site in Blackpool will remain open, but at a reduced capacity.
