BID Application gets underway with launch event
Plans to create a Business Improvement District (BID) in Liverpool’s Commercial District moved a step closer today with an official launch event in the city.
Liverpool Commercial District Partnership unveiled its official BID prospectus to guests at a breakfast summit at the Radisson Blu Hotel on Old Hall Street, where guests were able to examine the proposals and share their views with fellow businesses.
John Flamson, director of strategic partnerships and development at University of Liverpool, led a panel of business leaders who shared their experience of Business Improvement Districts and debated the issues surrounding BID status.
Paul Rice, chief executive of Liverpool CDP, said: “There is a real appetite among businesses in the area to move the BID application forward and that’s demonstrated by the great turnout we have had at this morning’s launch event.
“We have achieved some wonderful things in the commercial district but there is still much more to be done and this can only be delivered through the increased funding and collective spirit that comes with BID status.”
More than 800 landlords and tenants will be balloted on the BID proposal, which aims to generate in excess of £600,000 per year for enhanced marketing, maintenance and physical improvements through a levy equivalent to one per cent of business rates.
