Staff and visitors at the Liverpool Pavilion at the World Expo have sent birthday wishes over 6000 miles to the city’s most famous son, Sir Paul McCartney.

The Beatles star is celebrating his 68th birthday today.

Sir Paul McCartney has thrown his support behind Liverpool’s presence at the World Expo by recording the greeting message which has been played to more than 125,000 visitors in the pavilion since the Expo opened in May.

Mike Taylor, director of investment and enterprise at Liverpool Vision, said: “Sir Paul has given the city a great deal of support and enthusiasm for its presence at the World Expo. He is Liverpool’s most famous star, recognised across the world for his music, both with the Beatles and as a solo artist. He has done so much for the city throughout his career – we all want to wish him a very happy birthday.”

Liverpool’s presence at Expo 2010 is being led by Liverpool Vision in partnership with the Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA), Liverpool City Council, and the Liverpool Shanghai Partnership.
