100,000th visitor to pavilion given Liverpool Surprise
The Liverpool Pavilion at the World Expo in Shanghai has now welcomed more than 100,000 visitors through the doors.
The lucky 100,000th visitor was presented with a Liverpool Football Club ball signed by all the players including World Cup stars Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres after he was clocked as the lucky guest.
Michael Zhu, 12, from Ji Nan who was visiting the Expo for the first time with his mother and grandparents, is a big football fan and had heard of Liverpool and its football teams long before coming to the Pavilion which is situated in the Urban Best Practice Area of the Expo site.
Michael, who was delighted with his prize, said: “My uncle lives in Bristol, so if I get the chance to go the UK I would love to visit Liverpool. It looks like a great place, and has some really beautiful buildings. I want to take my younger brother to watch LFC play football too!”
Oliver Hayakawa Director of The Liverpool Shanghai Partnership, said: “It’s a fantastic achievement to hit the 100,000th visitor mark only five weeks into World Expo. The Pavilion is attracting around 2700 visitors per day, which is far more than other city pavilions in the Urban Best Practice Area. People are having a really great experience and telling their friends and family, which is generating more and more visitors.”
The ball was one of a number of exclusive prizes the Pavilion has to offer through the course of the Expo which runs until the end of October this year.
There are 59 cities exhibiting alongside Liverpool in the Urban Best Practice Area at the World Expo including the likes of Barcelona, Cairo and Venice.
Liverpool’s presence at Expo 2010 is being led by Liverpool Vision in partnership with the Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA), Liverpool City Council, and the Liverpool Shanghai Partnership.
