Journalists from the UK joined with Liverpool Vision and Liverpool City Council members to learn more about Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University, as part of an extended visit to the Shanghai Expo.

During the Expo the University of Liverpool will be involved in a number of events, with XJTLU ‘2+2’ students acting as volunteers. UoL will hold an Honorary Degree Ceremony and Alumni event at the site in August.

There has been considerable interest surrounding the Liverpool Pavilion, which is the UK’s only city representative. The pavilion is in the urban best practices area due to the regeneration that has transformed the Merseyside area, which holds parallels with sister city Shanghai.

Education and investment are seen as key areas in which China and the UK will hope to strengthen partnerships, and Liverpool Vision and Liverpool City Council are keen to encourage and develop opportunities that will arise during the six month event.

XJTLU, an education institute parented by the University of Liverpool and Xi’an Jiaotong University, has demonstrated that enormous success can be gained by such bilateral cooperative ventures, and the Expo will open up numerous possibilities for future collaboration.

Representing the BBC, the Financial Times, Granada, The Mirror, the Daily Post, and Radio Merseyside, the journalists were given a tour of the Suzhou Industrial Park. The delegation was met by Executive President Professor Xi, Vice President Professor Smith, and Director of Academic Affairs in China (University of Liverpool) Professor Everest.
