Liverpool Vision and the Freedom of Information Act
The Freedom of Information Act (2000) is intended to promote a culture of openness by providing greater access to all types of recorded information held by ‘public authorities’ and imposes obligations on them to disclose information, subject to a range of exemptions.
Liverpool Vision is covered by the Act as it is a publically owned Company.
Individuals already have the right to access their own information held on computer, and in some paper files, under the Data Protection Act 1998. This is known as the "subject access right". As far as public bodies are concerned, the Freedom of Information Act extends these rights to allow access to all the types of information they hold, whether personal or non-personal. However, a public authority will not be required to release information to which any of the exemptions in the Act applies (in Vision’s case largely relating to matters of commercial interest or personal information).
An important feature of the Act is the requirement for each public authority to produce a publication scheme setting out what information it will publish as a matter of course, how and when it will do so, and whether this information will be available free of charge or on payment.
Any requests for information under the FOI legislation should be forwarded in writing to:
Ian McCarthy, Programme Director, Liverpool Vision
The Capital, 39 Old Hall Street, Liverpool, L3 9PP
E-mail: imccarthy@liverpoolvision.co.uk
The Act allows 20 working days to provide a response.
Liverpool Vision's Publication Scheme
Each public authority is required under the FOI Act to produce a publication scheme setting out what information it will publish as a matter of course.
Liverpool Vision's website contains substantial information on the projects which the company is involved in delivering. In the first instance it is worth checking the availability of information on the website. If you cannot find the information you require, please contact Liverpool Vision and we will do our best to help. Unless otherwise indicated, all information is free of charge.
This scheme refers to types or ´classes´ of information, grouped into common sections, that Liverpool Vision publishes for use within our offices and externally. Publication does not refer solely to printed material. Publication has been interpreted as broadly as possibly to include items from our website, one-off printed documents, electronic documents, printed books, reports, CD-ROMs and leaflets.
