Chairman - Mike Parker
Michael Parker was appointed the first chair of Liverpool’s new economic development company in October 2007. As Group Chief Executive of BNFL, Mike, 61, has overseen operations at BNFL following his role as global chief executive officer of the Dow Chemical Company in Michigan, USA.Mike Parker was born in Waterloo and educated at Waterloo Grammar School before reading chemical engineering at Manchester University and later gaining an MBA from the Manchester Business School. He began his career with Dow in 1968, becoming President and Chief Executive Officer of the Dow Chemical Company in Midland, Michigan, USA in November 2000 to December 2002 and a member of the company’s Board of Directors from 1995 to February 2003.
He was appointed as Group Chief Executive of BNFL on 1 August 2003 and joined the Invensys plc Board as a Non-Executive Director on 24 May 2006.
Cllr Joe Anderson Leader - Council Labour Group
After leaving school Joe Anderson joined the Merchant Navy and then worked in the leisure industry. In a career change he became a mature student at Liverpool John Moores University and gained a Diploma in Social Work, qualifying as a Social Worker. He is now a Social Inclusion Manager based at Chesterfield High School in Sefton, where he manages a Learning Support Unit for pupils with behavioral and emotional problems.
Elected Leader of the Labour Group in 2002, Joe Anderson has been a Councilor for the Riverside since 1998. He is a board member of the Liverpool Culture Company and has been a Governor of St Vincent de Paul primary school for twelve years.
Cllr Paul Brant – Liverpool City Council
Paul Brant, Bachelor of Law, has worked as a Barrister specialising in Commercial Law in Liverpool since March 1994. In 1996 Paul became a volunteer member of the Liverpool Divisional Board of Merseyside Improved Houses (which later that year changed its name to Riverside Housing Association Ltd - RHA). In 2001 Paul was appointed Chairman of RHA’s Liverpool Divisional Board and a Board Member of RHA, becoming Chairman of RHA in 2002 (until 2009 when RHA amalgamated with its parent The Riverside Group Ltd – TRGL). Paul became a Board Member and Vice Chairman of TRGL in February 2003 and, following RHA’s amalgamation with TRGL in 2009, became Chair of TRGL’s Housing Services Committee until April 2010.
Paul was appointed Chairman of The Riverside Group Ltd (TRGL) from 1 May 2010. Paul is also a member and Chair of TRGL’s Group Investment Committee and Group Membership Committee, and a member of TRGL’s Remuneration Committee. He is a Director and Chair of Riverside Urban Services Ltd, Riverside Consultancy Services Ltd and Riverside Housing Repairs Ltd and a Trustee and Chair of Riverside Housing Association Charitable Trust (all Subsidiaries of TRGL). Paul has also been a Liverpool Tate Council Member since October 2004. Paul was elected as a Councillor on Liverpool City Council from May 1995. In May 2010 he became Deputy Leader of Liverpool City Council. He was a Member of Merseyside Waste Disposal Authority; was previously Opposition Spokesperson on the Environment Liverpool City Council; a Board Member of Ropewalks; and a Director of Liverpool Groundwork Trust.
Cllr Warren Bradley Leader - Liverpool City Council
Cllr Warren Bradley is Leader of Liverpool City Council and also oversees Leisure, Sport, Culture and Youth Services. Elected in 2000, Warren is a Liberal Democrat councilor representing Wavertree ward. Taking a full and active part in Liverpool’s European Capital of Culture, Warren serves on the Boards of the Liverpool Culture Company, Arts Council North West, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, St George’s Hall Trust, Theatres Trust and The Mersey Partnership.
Steven Broomhead Chief Executive - Northwest Development Agency
Prior to his current post, Steven was Chief Executive of Warrington Borough Council. During his 5 years in this position, the Borough received excellent inspection reports and was recognised nationally as a major centre for enterprise and inward investment. From 1994 to 1997, Steven was the Principal of Warrington Collegiate Institute. He was previously Principal of a tertiary college in County Durham, and Vice Principal of Skelmersdale College in Lancashire, at the age of 33 this is the youngest appointment ever made in the college sector.
Steven is committed to the promotion of lifelong learning, for which he was recently awarded the BT National Lifelong Learning Award for his contribution to skills and education. In 2001 he was appointed by the Government as a member of the Board of the Learning and Skills Development Agency.
David Bundred Chairman - Aerogistics
David has enjoyed a successful international general management career in blue chip engineering businesses over nearly 30 years. He worked for Lucas from 1976 to 1999, taking roles of increasing size and scale and finishing his time there as COO of Lucas Aerospace. He then entered the world of private equity and following a successful MBI and market reposition of the Ross Catherall Group, in 2003 he was appointed CEO of the TMD Group (a 4,000 employee, €700m supplier to the automotive industry headquartered in Germany) to lead the turnaround of the group after the discovery of a major fraud. In 2005 he returned to the UK and is currently helping a number of small companies through mentoring and financial investment in the role of investing chairman.
Jeanette Kehoe-Perkinson Vice-President - Mexx
Jeanette was born and educated in Liverpool and after graduation from university joined Ford Motor Company where she started her HR career in Dagenham in 1989. Since then she has enjoyed a senior international business career with both blue chip companies such as Cargill and Novartis and the start-up online business, Priceline.com. Since 2003 she has been running her own consultancy, working with clients such as global online gaming companies PartyGaming and 888.com. Jeanetteis currently working in a full-time capacity as a VP on the Board of Mexx, the international fashion business which is part of the Liz Claiborne Inc company, based in Amsterdam.
John Kelly Partner - KPMG
John is a partner in the international accountancy and advisory firm KPMG. He is Global Lead for Post Deal Services and European Head of their M&A Strategy Team. He advises clients on merger integration, delivering the value envisaged when the deal was contemplated. His experience encompasses some of the largest international mergers, acquisitions and divestments, and includes some of the North West’s major companies. Born in Liverpool and educated at St Edwards College, he qualified as a Chartered Accountant in Liverpool and spent his earlier career in the North West. More recently, as a KPMG partner, he operates predominantly at a national and international level, whilst retaining the family home in Liverpool.
Sir Terry Leahy Chief Executive - Tesco Plc
Sir Terry was appointed chief executive of Tesco PLC in March 1997. He received a knighthood for services to food retailing in the 2002 New Year Honours. He went to school at St Edwards College, Liverpool and then went on to the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology where he gained his BSc (Hons) in management sciences. He is Co-Chancellor of Manchester University.
Tony Wilson Senior Partner - Hill Dickinson
Tony has been Senior Partner of Hill Dickinson, the largest law firm headquartered in Liverpool since 2001, and which has recently enjoyed its 5th successive record year. He is chairman of the LLP Board. Tony was born and educated in Liverpool and came back to the City after university - starting his legal career in a branch office in Walton. He moved into the City in the 1980s to help grow the business becoming Managing Partner between 1994 and 1998. During this time the firm opened offices in Manchester and Chester. Hill Dickinson is Official Lawyer to Liverpool 08 and Tony is the Company Secretary to the Board of the Culture Company.
Deborah McLaughlin North West Regional Director - Homes and Communities Agency
Deborah McLaughlin is Regional Director for the North West region at the Homes and Communities Agency. Together with local and regional partners in the North West, she is responsible for delivering the Government’s national housing and regeneration priorities locally.
Deborah is a member of the Joint Economic Commission for the North West and is chair of its Housing Subgroup. She is also a Board member of Liverpool Vision, Central Salford, Re-Blackpool and New East Manchester Urban Regeneration Companies. Deborah is also a member of the Regional Strategy Team, the Regional Housing Group and the North West Leadership Group.
Prior to joining HCA, Deborah was Director of Housing for Manchester City Council and was responsible for Strategic Housing; Delivery of Stock Divestment Strategy; Housing PFI programme, Supporting People; Housing Management; Homelessness and Private Sector Investment and Renewal.
Jon Corner – Creative Director of River Media
Jon Corner is the co-founder of River Media, a creative production company in Liverpool.
He has been either a creative director or creative collaborator in regional initiatives including Liverpool's status as European Capital of Culture and World Heritage waterfront and Salford's bid for Media City UK. Most recently he has conceptualised and delivered the city’s digital presence at Shanghai World Expo.
He has worked in the music, television and film industries for more than 20 years and has been awarded for excellence in post-production techniques by Sony.
Corner has also lectured extensively on global trends in digital technologies and their impact on how we live and learn and has been a long-standing advocate of the creativity agenda in teaching and learning. He is member of Council at the University of Salford and is Chairman of the Project Executive Committee for its new campus at Mediacity.
Tim Slack - Co-Director Appreciating People
Tim Slack is the founder and lead Director of Appreciating People.
Tim has worked in youth work and regeneration for over 30 years, starting his professional career as a youth and community worker in a Nottinghamshire mining community. He has held a number of posts including Principal Youth Officer, Social Inclusion Manager, CEO for a New Deal for Communities project, senior manager for SRB and EC Objective1 programmes, and R&D director for a Groundwork Trust.
He is an experienced group and whole systems facilitator and has managed both local authority services and community organisations, and has recently completed training as a Self-Factor coach. In January 2007 he became an accredited consultant for Cultural Transformation Tools (CTT).
