Work starts on phase two of Liverpool’s Baltic Creative
Building firm ISG has started work on the second phase of development at Liverpool’s Baltic Creative scheme.
Phase One saw the creation of 10,000 sq ft of commercial space in a warehouse complex in Jordan Street for creative and digital sector firms.
Baltic Creative CIC, which was set up in 2009 to oversee the project, says the second phase will see the creation of an extra 35,000 sq ft of space.
It is being backed by Liverpool Vision and by the European Regional Development Fund.
The pilot phase attracted tenants including Liverpool Sound City, Gecko Design, Trans Pacific Ltd and GoCre8, and is now 90% occupied.
Phase Two – otherwise known as the Catalyst Phase – is scheduled for completion in June next year.
Occupied units will receive envelope works, but vacated spaces will receive full redevelopment works.
Once completed, the space will provide a cafe, gallery, shed studio, duplex and shop-front studio space.
Liverpool-based architects, Union North, are behind the design.
Mark Lawler, Baltic Creative CIC centre manager, said: “It’s great to have ISG on board.
“They have really bought into our vision for the scheme and to now see work commence on site is very exciting. Having now let 90% of our first phase refurbished units, we are keen to see the second phase complete.
“The plan for the scheme is incredibly exciting and we are getting interest from some fantastic creative and digital companies.”
Jim Parker, ISG’s managing director North West, added: “The redevelopment of this underused area in Liverpool city centre is a dynamic enterprise, and the passion and commitment of Baltic Creative to deliver a vibrant community of creative businesses is inspiring.
“Once completed, these managed workspaces will undoubtedly prove an attractive proposition.”
