Waves to help navigate troubled business waters
Waves Enterprise, supported by Liverpool Vision, the city’s economic development company launches today (Monday, May 23, 11-2pm) offering bespoke ‘whole business’ assistance.
This new business growth company has come out of the Waves ‘Sirollli’ business facilitation model which was established in three projects across the city in 2007.
Each project sourced funding to employ one business facilitator, backed by a panel of volunteers who comprised a mixture of local residents and business people working in the area.
The Facilitation Panel meets once a month to provide advice and support for new businesses, which is then relayed through the business facilitator.
While Waves continues to offer free of charge help with planning, starting and growing small businesses in Central and South Liverpool, Waves Enterprise will offer a bespoke, paid for service for any business in the UK.
Waves Enterprise introduces business growth and business development solutions, from marketing to turnaround strategies as well as a comprehensive range of training programmes for organisations of all sizes and stages of development.
Profits from Waves Enterprise will be used to fund the voluntary work of Waves, allowing Waves to continue to provide free of charge support and advise to small business.
David Wiles, Chair of Waves and Chief Executive of Waves Enterprise, said: “There is little doubt that the future success of our economy will depend on the success of our small and medium sized enterprises.
“High quality business support is vital and in these times of reduced public spending we believe that we now offer business support solutions that are affordable, effective and are of real benefit to business.
“The new Waves Enterprise model draws upon the considerable talents of the Waves Facilitation Panel as well as a dedicated management team to provide a more comprehensive service.
“It is the realisation of a long-held vision for the team of business owners and consultants who have worked with us since 2007. Our first weeks of operation have seen our first clients through the doors and they are already beginning to see results.”
During the launch event at the Liverpool Business Centre, Goodlass Road, Speke, members of Waves Enterprise will present their range of business support services and explain how they work for SMEs.
Mike Taylor, deputy chief executive of Liverpool Vision, said: “Waves Enterprise is again showing the way. It has responded to reduction in public funding by developing a whole range of low cost services businesses will want and can afford, helping to unlock entrepreneurial talent and building on the city’s growing business success.
“Liverpool is a very creative and enterprising city and this needs to be encouraged and we also have to have the experts in place who can help others succeed in investing in their own businesses.
“We do need to reduce the dependency of the city on public sector jobs, keeping what we’ve got, but also to help people who want to set up in business in every way we can, creating new jobs and wealth.
“We wish the initiative every success and believe it is a model for effective business support both now and in the future. “
