Stanley Street Consultation: Have your say

Stanley Street Consultation: Have your say

The Stanley Street area is widely recognised as the “gay village” of Liverpool.

A decision has been taken, by Liverpool City Council and its partners, to actively develop and promote this part of the city.

This will harness the potential in the area, particularly from the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans (LGB&T) community and other key stakeholders to create a first rate destination for residents and visitors.
Development and promotion needs to cover areas as diverse as marketing, physical design, land use mix and operational offer in order to put the area on an equal footing with similar areas both nationally and internationally.

To support these aims, a consultation exercise to gather views on how this could best be achieved was undertaken between February and March 2011.

This Consultation Draft report captures the results of that exercise. It recommends the area’s identity as the centre of the LGB&T scene is given official support by Liverpool City Council, other agencies and organisations, both public and private, as a means of enhancing and promoting the area, and by extension, the city as a whole.

The Council and its partners are now seeking the views of all interested individuals and organisations on the ideas contained within the Consultation Draft. Comments on all aspects of report are welcomed. Of particular interest to the study team and the project steering group, is the role individual stakeholders and organisations can play in order to implement the actions identified.

The report contains a draft table of actions and recommendations (pages 93 – 100). It is intended that the Final Report will contain a completed version of this table, with the names of individual stakeholders and organisations placed against each action.

Comments will be accepted up to Friday 13th May 2011. The study team and the project steering group will consider all responses received by this time and then amend the report accordingly. A Final Report will be issued on Friday 20th May 2011.

All comments on the Consultation Draft should be directed to Mike Cockburn, City Centre Manager at Liverpool City Council:
