New city sculpture exhibition given a head start

Some of Liverpool’s most famous faces will go on display at Rennies Gallery, in Bold Street, from tomorrow.

The line-up of well-known figures are the maquettes used by local sculptor Tom Murphy to create his iconic full-size art works.

Statues created by the artist have become Liverpool landmarks and include John Lennon at the airport, Dixie Dean at Goodison Park, Bill Shankly at Anfield, Captain Johnnie Walker at the Pier Head, Billy Fury at the Albert Dock and John and Cecil Moores, in Old Hall Street.
