Liverpool’s creative sector under the spotlight at London Software City

The International Software City event in London has seen ten companies from the UK, USA and Finland pitch for investment.

The aim of Software City is to provide funding networking, investment and training opportunities for entrepreneurs and investment in the digital and creative sectors while showcasing Liverpool and the wider region as internationally significant in this key sector.

The first Software City in the capital takes place on Monday 23rd May at the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) and saw five companies from the South East: AppShed, SemiTech Global, Unique Health, JamIT Media and Askvisory; two from Liverpool: Qire and New Mind, two from Finland: Hammerkit and Sopima; one from the USA: QLess; present to a panel of international investors in front of an audience of technology and digital bosses.

Steve Smith, digital industry director at Liverpool Vision said: “Software City has already enjoyed four years in its birthplace of Liverpool, but it is part of our ambition to spread the net as far as possible.

“As high quality companies come out of recession and early stage companies look to establish a foothold we must do all we can to get them here, sell the city as innovative, creative with a ready source of venture capital.

“This event is exciting as it has attracted so much interest in the South East with around 75 companies from that region in trying to win a place at the final pitching session.

“The companies from overseas are trying to spread their reach as quickly as possible, the companies in the South East are receptive to moving to Liverpool if they are offered the right kind of investment and we are trying to entice all of them to the city.”

“This can only benefit Liverpool in the long run, because we are on each other’s radar. Our contact doesn’t stop with the final ten either.

“Many of those who are not at BIS will still be taken under our wing and assisted in developing their offer with a view to securing investment in the future and setting up in Liverpool.”

Software City combines direct access to Technology, Finance and Innovation regionally, nationally and internationally with business development, coaching and sales promotion.

Software City has delivered many trade missions, major events and development activities for entrepreneurial businesses in Finland, Sweden, the UK, USA and across mainland Europe.

Software City, founded in 2008, is also connected to the leading investor organisations, influential business leaders within the Digital, Creative and Computer industries.
