Liverpool Community College - Latest Sponsor for 2012 Global Entrepreneurship Congress

Liverpool Community College is the latest organisation to sign up as a sponsor for next year’s Global Entrepreneurship Congress (GEC) in Liverpool, which is set to attract leading economists and entrepreneurs from more than 120 countries.

The further education college, rated outstanding by Ofsted, has recently set up a new Learning Exchange and joins headline partner Lloyds TSB (Commercial) as a confirmed sponsor of the event which is run by the US-based Kauffman Foundation.

It’s being held in Europe for the first time with previous host cities Kansas City in 2009, Dubai in 2010 and Shanghai in 2011.

Up to three thousand delegates are expected at GEC 2012 and will hear from speakers including Sir Terry Leahy, former CEO Tesco, Carl Schramm, CEO of the Kaufmann Foundation; Lord Michael Heseltine; Steve Felice, President, Dell (Consumer, Small and Medium Business); Dr Chris Luebkeman, Director for Global Foresight and Innovation, Arup; Martha Lane Fox, UK's digital champion and co-founder of lastminute.com and Deb Leary OBE, President of the British Association of Female Entrepreneurs.

There are just a few days to buy tickets for the GEC Main Event on Tuesday 13th March, at the early bird price of £150 (available until December 16th).

Max Steinberg, chief executive of Liverpool Vision, the city’s economic development company, said: “There is no doubt that Liverpool Community College is a leader in its field. More than 500 apprentices have already begun their training at the college this academic year and through its new Learning Exchange, programmes are being piloted with businesses to help young people establish careers with long-term prospects.

“The GEC gives the College a platform to showcase this pioneering work globally as it further develops its links with the emerging economies.”

Elaine Bowker, Principal of Liverpool Community College said: “This is an excellent opportunity for the College which is already working internationally to bring investment into the city.

“Through the success of our Work Academy, which is now being rolled out nationally, and our Apprenticeship schemes, we’ve been able to help create a skilled and flexible workforce in the City Region.

“We are now looking to expand business partnership working and work closely with some of the region’s top employers to provide vocational training for Liverpool’s young people.

“Enterprise is key to a successful future economy and this partnership provides us with the perfect opportunity to help achieve this and our other ambitions.”

The Festival of Entrepreneurship begins over the weekend of the 9th -11th March with ‘Start Up weekend’, a dynamic 48 hours through which new businesses are born.

Throughout the week there will be a whole range of established GEC events such as ‘Your Big Year’, Software City and Cleantech Open as well as themed days focusing on women’s entrepreneurship, social enterprise and a Liverpool Business Fair.

The GEC concludes with a gala dinner at Liverpool’s Anglican Cathedral on Thursday 15th March with tickets costing from £125.
