It's official: Liverpool is the UK’s friendliest city!

Liverpool has been awardd the title of  'The UK's friendliest city. Conde Nast Traveller readers have awarded the city the title of the country’s most welcoming place for the second year on the trot.

Liverpool picked up the accolade at the magazine’s 14th Annual Readers’ Travel Awards, which took place at the Royal Institution of Great Britain in London last night.

It also ranked at the country’s fourth favourite city, beating its regional counterparts and only lagging behind the tourist honeypots of London, Edinburgh and Bath.

The Merseyside Partnership, which runs national campaigns marketing the city’s attractions, was understandably delighted at the news, with chief executive Lorraine Rogers calling it a “a fantastic acknowledgement for Liverpool.”

She added: “Anecdotally Liverpool is often known for its friendly welcome and the warmth of its people – but for this to be officially recognised by readers of one of the leading and most discerning travel magazines for the second year running is a major accolade for the destination. This is a tribute to the taxi drivers, tour guides, hoteliers and everyone who works in the visitor economy.”

The city region’s visitor economy currently generates around £2.8bn annually and and is estimated to support approximately 41,000 jobs a year.
