Great Enterprise Challenge schools finalists revealed
The 11 finalists in Liverpool’s Great Enterprise Challenge schools competition have been revealed.
It follows the semi-finals hosted by Rathbones at their offices in the Port of Liverpool building where the final 22 schools battled it out to reach the final.
Each has been awarded a further £500 and will now receive expert mentoring before getting the chance to pitch during the week of the Global Entrepreneurship Congress (GEC) and win a trip to Washington DC.
Last month Sir Richard Branson was announced as the keynote speaker for the Congress where entrepreneurs and thought leaders from more than 120 countries will be represented.
Cllr Gary Millar, Liverpool City Council’s assistant cabinet member to the leader who came up with idea for the Challenge, said:
“This competition really has showcased some innovative ideas from schools across the city. It was so difficult to separate the semi-finalists that the judges put through an extra one of the primary schools. We also decided to give the 11 schools that didn’t make it a further £100 from the city council to encourage them to carry on.
“The pupils’ passion for business shines through and it proves that the entrepreneurial spirit is alive and kicking in Liverpool.”
Max Steinberg OBE, chief executive of Liverpool Vision, said:
“From the outset, we have seen a whole host of ideas come alive through the creativity and commitment of those taking part. Children as young as six have shown an entrepreneurial flair and their teachers should be proud of what they’ve already achieved.
“There is no doubt that this competition will provide a lasting legacy with some of these ideas forming the basis for the businesses of tomorrow.”
The primary schools through to the final are Anfield Infants, Dovedale Juniors, Hunts Cross Primary, King David Primary, Rice Lane Infant and Nursery and Sacred Heart Primary.
They’ll be joined by the following secondary schools Alsop, Archbishop Blanch, Cardinal Heenan Catholic High, Parklands and Saint Francis Xavier.
The GEC, whose headline sponsor is Lloyds TSB, is also being supported by Liverpool Community College, Liverpool Community Health, Liverpool John Moores University, ARUP and Cosmopolitan Housing.
