Liverpool Embassy creative event showcases region's talent

The cream of Liverpool’s creative and digital talent was celebrated at a reception at Liverpool’s business embassy in London.

The ‘Double Take’ event took place on Tuesday 29th March from 6-8pm and was hosted by Merseyside ACME and Liverpool Vision.  The event attracted a powerful mix of industry representatives from both Liverpool and London.

Some of the region’s hottest performers in film, music, arts, media, fashion and technology were represented alongside investors who have an active interest in backing interesting businesses with potential for growth.

Guests experienced an exclusive performance from hot new Liverpool artist Delta Maid, selected by Liverpool Sound City, whose much anticipated debut album ‘Outside Looking In’ is to be released this April.

Kevin McManus, director of Merseyside ACME, said: “Liverpool has always been well- known as one of the world’s great cities of creativity and innovation and this fact holds true today.

“I’ve just come back from Souyj by Southwest and the Liverpool brand is still incredibly strong. It’s fitting that we should be doing something like this embassy.”

“This was an important event and allowed us to show London businesses just how edgy, forward thinking and dynamic a place Liverpool is for music, film, design, gaming, fashion and other technologies.

“We had some very influential guests attending who are hearing the buzz about Liverpool, including the UK’s ambassador for Finland a country with which we are already establishing sectoral links and investment.”

Liverpool and London based Mercy the multi-faceted design agency, literature and arts collective will also be exhibiting illustrations and sculptures by Liverpool artists with light and music.

Mercy have worked with the likes of Universal, Sony, Diesel, Virgin and the Young Vic as well as acclaimed national festivals Abandon Normal Devices, Chester Performs, Liverpool Biennial and the Bluecoat's Chapter & Verse literature festival.

Nathan Jones, creative director of Mercy, said: “When we were asked to put together some creative stuff that would represent Liverpool's creative scene, we got to thinking about Liverpool itself, and what it means to people outside the city.

“We decided that our Liverpool is both immediately recognisable and really rewards a second look and that's what we'll be doing with the show!

For Chris Heyes, head of the embassy, the creative  event was a great example of the embassy’s role in promoting Liverpool and its businesses.

Last month Grosvenor held an event at the embassy to showcase Liverpool One.

Other events have focussed on investment banking and potential opportunities in Korea.  And last month the embassy hosted an event for London-based alumni of Liverpool John Moores University.
