Creating Opportunities for Liverpool Graduates
A unique initiative linking Liverpool’s higher education centres with the city’s thriving creative sector is set to make Liverpool a cutting edge centre for innovation and enterprise.
‘Creative Opportunities’ is a free on-line recruitment tool that matches talent with job opportunities to retain the finest creative minds in Liverpool and attract other talent and business to the city.
Liverpool Vision is working with the University of Liverpool, Liverpool John Moores University, Liverpool Hope University, the Liverpool School of Performing Arts and Liverpool Community College and leading businesses in the city’s thriving creative and digital sectors in creating a dynamic, purpose-built website.
The Creative Opportunities website www.creative-opportunities.co.uk allows students and graduates to search for employment, work placements and internships that match their skills, while creative businesses can advertise their jobs and for project collaborations.
Professor Bill Chambers, Pro Vice Chancellor at Liverpool Hope University, said: “We want to retain as much of the talent that we guide and nourish in Liverpool to the benefit of our educational reputation and the city’s economy.
“My counterparts and I at the other higher education establishments saw immediately that this was an opportunity that would help continue and reinforce our students’ and graduates’ association with Liverpool, while linking us with a sector that is becoming increasingly important to the future prosperity of the city.”
Simon Rhodes of Smiling Wolf design agency, who designed the Creative Opportunities website, said: “This is an excellent initiative and in time I am sure it will become a frequent port of call for those interested in a career in our sectors, from full time jobs to work experience placements.
“With this initiative we are trying to create the conditions in which innovation and entrepreneurship can thrive and this is a big stepping stone to help realising the ambition of an even more dynamic creative sector for the city region.”
Barry McGorry, senior development manager at Liverpool Vision, said: “This heralds a unique co-operation between educators and employers which will benefit Liverpool. It is free to use and has all the opportunities in one place meaning ease of access for all users.
“An aim of Liverpool Vision is to attract more skilled people to the city, help even more graduates stay here and to improve and maintain Liverpool’s competitive edge as an inward investment destination with a good supply of skilled and qualified people that will in turn foster innovation and entrepreneurship.
“Creative Opportunities will help achieve this and has seen educators and businesses working more closely together.”
Creative Opportunities was launched on 30 March 2011 at the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts.
