Apprentices deliver business growth
Apprenticeships are the proven way for a business to train its workforce, or recruit new staff, as local property company, Bold Spirit discovered to their advantage.
Jack Buckles started his apprenticeship with Liverpool Chamber Training after he left college half way through his second year. He started on the Chamber’s apprenticeship programme in November 2010. After several interviews, he found a placement at property company, Bold Sprit. While working there, he completed his level two qualification in business administration.
He has since been offered a permanent job by his employer and he is now working towards an IT Level 3 qualification. Jack’s role now involves managing booking and marketing for a probably? in Cumbria and providing administrative support for other companies owned by the group.
Jack stated: “Doing an Apprenticeship helped me gain confidence. The most useful part is on the job training at the same time as working; it relevant and obviously, I’ve gained a full-time, permanent job as a result of my training.”
Carole Crosby, chamber deputy chief executive, explained: “Apprenticeships are very useful and important tool in career development. They are designed around the needs of employers. Apprentices don’t just have to be new staff; existing employees can learn new skills and qualifications through the programme. Organisations who employ apprentices tell us they see increased productivity; improved retention of skilled staff; and an increased competitive edge.
There are benefits for the apprentices themselves. The number of apprentices that a business can have is unlimited, so candidates needn’t worry about the availability of places within a company. Also, as the schemes can last between one and three years, this provides plenty of training for the apprentices and can help them to determine whether or not to pursue their chosen field. This is a crucial initiative to help young people find work, and provide local employers with the skilled and motivated staff that they require.”
