Appreciation Works to Help Community Organisations
A leading Liverpool management and development consultancy is to celebrate its fifth anniversary by launching a new Community Interest Company (CIC).
Appreciating People have today (Monday 18th July 2011) launched Appreciation Works CIC at Blackburne House, to help third sector organisations excel and grow.
Tim Slack, Co-Founder of Appreciating People, said: “Appreciating Works will provide a range of services specifically aimed for the community sector, including organisational development, planning, support and training.”
“During our five years in business we have helped over 40 organisations. Sadly, we have recently seen many third sector organisations struggling to survive and individuals are trying to work out how to maintain their well-being.
Appreciating People helps organisations ‘ask the difficult questions’ and construct new visions and plans based on an organisation’s existing strengths and potential.
The programmes work through the layers that exist in organisations, breaking down the gaps which can occur by facilitating employee engagement.
Mr Slack said: “The Appreciating People process would benefit any organisation at any point in its lifecycle. Our services are used in organisational development, crisis and change management.
“Basically we are a strategic consultancy facilitating positive change through people. The benefits of engaging employees’ strengths have been widely documented – improving attendance, retention and productivity.”
Appreciating People started as a consultancy inspired by Tim Slack and Suzanne Quinney. Between them they had served many years in senior public sector management and international development operations.
Tim Slack is also a non executive director of Liverpool Vision, the city’s economic development company and Chair of the Liverpool and Knowsley FSB.
After training in David Cooperrider’s organisational development philosophy Appreciative Inquiry, Tim and Suzanne founded Appreciating People, dedicated to ‘building on what works’.
They have received international recognition for their work in two major Appreciative Inquiry handbooks, as well as facilitating the Liverpool Capital of Culture 08 ‘Big Conversation’ which informed the arts and health strategy for Liverpool Primary Care Trust.
Suzanne Quinney said the applied a simply 5D model to bring about positive change: “Firstly we look at what the organisation is doing right and then apply the model.
“The five D’s are – Definition of the inquiry, Discovery – appreciating the best of what is, Dream – imagining what could be, Design – determining how it can be, Delivery – creating what will be.
“This simple process is used with major corporations and with small community organisations to support and deliver major change and develop their strategic plans.”
Appreciating People now plan to exploit the company’s accomplishments and expand, creating more associate roles and a head office support operation in the city region.
Mr Slack said: “Our plan is to increase turnover by 20 per cent per annum and to continue building a national reputation. Liverpool is a very business friendly city providing the right environment for the growth of CIC’s and private enterprises.”
