Vision trio head to MIPIM property festival
LIVERPOOL will this week send its much-reduced delegation to the world’s biggest property fair in the south of France, in a bid to attract fresh investment to the city.
Liverpool Vision’s deputy chief executive, Mike Taylor, will lead a team of three at the annual Mipim (Marché International des Professionnels d’Immobilier) event in Cannes.
The delegation will also include Vision’s senior development manager for the city centre, Ann Hopper, and its events co-ordinator, Julie McKenzie.
Liverpool has been attending the event for the past decade and in previous years has hired a yacht and an exhibition stand.
However, Liverpool City Council has decided it can no longer justify the £150,000-a-year funding it had previously paid towards the event.
At one stage, it was feared Liverpool would not attend at all, but a decision was taken that a presence at Mipim, however small, was important if the city was to remain on the radar of potential major investors.
This year, Liverpool has linked up with the Place UK stand, located in the Riviera Hall, the same location as its own stand in previous years.
And on Wednesday, Mr Taylor will give a presentation on the ongoing regeneration projects on the city’s waterfront.
He told LDP Business: “Liverpool has enjoyed an incredible year since the last Mipim event, which was again a very successful week in Cannes.
“Even though the city’s presence has been scaled down again, Liverpool’s ambition is as strong as ever.
“We come to Mipim this year on the back of our multi-award winning presence at the World Expo in Shanghai and having opened a business embassy in the heart of the City of London, both of which are already reaping economic benefits for the city.
“This year is an important one for Liverpool, as we continue to face robustly the economic challenges and there is so much happening to give us confidence in the future.
“I hope many businesses will take this opportunity to meet us at the Place UK stand to discuss what opportunities they can take advantage of in Liverpool in the years ahead.”
