Liverpool south docks waterspace strategy

Liverpool south docks waterspace strategy

The South Docks are a vitally  important but underused opportunity on the city’s waterfront.   To help unlock their potential,  and contribute to the city’s wider regeneration ambitions, British Waterways has appointed Baca Architects to prepare a three stage strategy to promote sustainable development and multi-functional  use.

Stage 1: A comprehensive analysis of the docks and Stage 2: The identification of appropriate uses of the strategy are now complete.    Stage 3: which is about to commence will build on these findings in the form of a development strategy encompassing short, medium and long term ambitions.     The aim is to launch the strategy at the Liverpool Boat Show in Spring this year.

Julie Sharman, Head of Regeneration North at British Waterways said ‘Baca will bring an interesting approach to waterspace design that will help unlock the potential of the docks and the World Heritage Site, and ensure their sustainable future as an important part of the City.”

Liverpool Vision is part of a Steering Group that is overseeing completion of Stage 3.  Development manager Alistair Macdonald commented:   ‘A long term development strategy for the South Docks waterspace will not only consolidate the city centre waterfront as a visitor destination of international quality but also underpin the expansion of local visitor economy’.
