Kings Dock Masterplan update
The first phase of development at Kings Dock has been a great success. Construction of the Liverpool Echo Arena and BT Conference Centre, two hotels, a multi storey car park with housing on its two outward facing elevations, and a piazza that now accommodates an observation wheel, has enhanced the profile of the city centre waterfront and its growing recognition as a visitor destination of international quality.
While the Arena and Convention Centre is now established as a national and international venue, the expansion of its business is constrained by limited exhibition space within its current operation.
To address this, Liverpool City Council, Homes and Communities Agency and Liverpool Vision are working on plans for a new exhibition hall on vacant land to the south. The hall could provide an additional 8,100 sq m of sub-divisible flat floor space for trade, leisure and corporate fairs, dinners, music and entertainment events.
In parallel with this, and in recognition of changes in the housing market, the partners are commissioning a new masterplan for the remaining vacant land at Kings, with a focus on uses and opportunities that will enhance the city’s visitor economy and support the exhibition hall.
