Andy Mac to help make the DJ to fall in love…with you*

A Liverpool ‘super DJ’ is the latest music industry insider to help aspiring artists and music entrepreneurs achieve success.

Internationally renowned disc spinner, Andy Mac, is hosting a seminar, organised by Merseyside ACME, part of Liverpool Vision, the city’s economic development company, which will take place at Liverpool Vision’s offices on Thursday, March 3.

The seminar will help delegates negotiate the world of radio-pluggers, how to achieve personal access to DJs and how to make money through repeated plays on the radio.

In February around 30 people were held enthralled by the advice given by chart-topping urban grime collective, Roll Deep and Ray Paul, co-founder of Radio1Xtra in Merseyside ACME’s first music industry seminar.

Liverpudlian DJ and producer, Andy Mac, is one of the biggest names in clubland with his long-running Cream residency and globally famous dance music podcasts. He will talk about why radio is an essential consideration for musicians and producers and how to get airplay and how to use radio to generate revenue.

He said: “Arguably the hardest part of this industry is getting on a DJ’s play list. You’ve got the talent, you’ve got the song, but you need people to hear it. This seminar is designed to provide the best tips for getting music played and I am pleased to have been offered this chance by ACME.

“Music business people - the DJs, the men in suits, the pluggers - are always looking for the next big tune, the next chart-topping act and I want to help up-coming artists make the most of what they’ve got to offer. In my line of work there is nothing quite as exciting as playing a great new song by an emerging artist and helping them on their way to fame and fortune.”

Kevin McManus, director of Merseyside ACME, said: “Bands, artists and managers all need airplay to thrive and grow and to make money. Andy Mac has been DJing successfully for many years and he knows what it takes to hear your song on the radio.

“All our seminars have been designed to give Liverpool’s aspiring performers whether they are established in their careers or looking to break in, a better understanding of how the industry works from those who are making it work for them.”

The final seminar takes place on Monday, March 7, when Lynden Campbell, Head of Synchronisation at independent record label, Domino Records UK, will be inviting producers, musicians and film makers to a live workshop to demonstrate the process of syncing music to film, followed by a Q&A.

Domino Records artists’ roster includes, among many, The Arctic Monkeys, Franz Ferdinand, Tricky, The Kills, Animal Collective and Robert Wyatt.
